South Florida Air and Sea Show Executive Producer Mickey Markoff shares vids ahead of the 2022 Memorial Day event.
With the 2021 Hyundai Air and Sea Show in the rearview mirror, the 2022 show is close on the horizon as we inch closer to Memorial Day Weekend. Executive Producer Mickey Markoff has helped to produce the Air and Sea Shows throughout the last few decades, and continues to dedicate his time to help pay tribute to our nation’s heroes.
Although the 2020 event was cancelled due to the coronavirus, the show made a successful pivot to honor the heroes of the pandemic: the frontline workers, first responders, and healthcare providers helping to combat COVID-19. Coronavirus heroes were honored with a Blue Angels flyover, and the Air and Sea Show took on a new mission of honoring local heroes. Hyundai urged community citizens to nominate individuals who have made a difference in their community during the coronavirus crisis with the ‘Salute 365’ initiative. Winners were awarded Hyundai Sonatas as a symbol of gratitude for their service to the community. Hyundai was recently named ‘One of the Nation’s Best of the Best Top Veteran-Friendly Companies’ by U.S. Veterans Magazine.
The initiative also found Folds of Honor scholarships provided to families of service members who became disabled or died during active duty. Although the 2020 show did not proceed as initially planned, the pivot was a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for the frontline workers and fallen heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in pursuit of our nation’s freedom.
The 2021 show found the event proceeding as usual, and it went off without a hitch. Local 10’s Alexis Frazier hit the skies ahead of the show, getting a chance to skydive with the Army’s Golden Nights and British Red Devils. The event showcased demonstrations from both groups, as well as a military presence from all branches of the armed forces. The 2021 show also featured a TV special produced by Peter Berg and Mickey Markoff, Gold Star Tribute. The show was also narrated by Peter Berg. The special shares the stories of Gold Star Families who have lost their family members during active duty, helping to raise awareness and pay homage to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
